Dr. Devaraj Veerasamy

Dr. Devaraj Veerasamy, holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering, is presently a Principal Consultant of Suraaj Mahir Consultancy (SMC); a Malaysian environmental consultation company, providing advisory services and mitigating environmental degradation, focusing on raw rubber processing and rubber products manufacturing industries. He was a Principal Scientist and Head of Environmental Technology and Sustainability Program, of Malaysian Rubber Board (MRB), prior to his retirement in June 2015, after serving the Malaysian Government for 37 years. Presently he is a panel member of experts for wastewater recycling and harvesting, extraction and purification of groundwater, to the Malaysian Rubber Export Promotion Council (MREPC), as well as panel member of experts for Plastic and Rubber Institute of Malaysia. He has been a technical & academic consultant and external industrial supervisor, for post-graduate students of Malaysian universities and Prince of Songkhla University (PSU) of Thailand. His consultancy services in ASEAN countries involve revolutionizing raw rubber processing to adopt membrane separation processes for mitigating environmental degradation and the recovery of value-added raw material from waste. To date, he has published more than 80 research articles in journals, conference proceedings, and two book chapters on process improvement, cleaner processing technique, minimization, and utilization of waste and treated wastewater recycling, mainly focusing on the rubber industry. He has one major patent granted in 2016 and 4 international patent applications, pending. He is an Editorial Board Member of the ISI Impact Factor citation indexed Journal of Rubber Research (established in 1940).


Dr. Ir Erna Yuliwati

Dr. Ir Erna Yuliwati, IPM (B. Chem.E., M.Sc Chem.E. University of Sriwijaya Indonesia, Non-degree Chemical Technologie Fakultaet, Fachhochschule Darmstadt, Germany, Doctor Philosophy of Chemical Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). She is lecturer in chemical engineering, faculty of engineering Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang and head of research center and environment study Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang. She has authored and co-authored numerous books and book chapters, and more refereed journal and coference papers and many technical papers. She is also a head of water resources management coordination in South sumatera, Jambi , Bengkulu and Lampung Provinces. She is an expert in environmental impact analysis of development South Sumatera Province. She worked as a consultant member on process development to Indonesia Popular Governance Institute, Bandung, Indonesia which plays in innovative contribution to understanding and development of membrane technology and their implementation, specially in water and wastewater treatment in various methods.

Prof. Ahmad Fauzi Ismail, PhD., FAsc., FIChemE., CEng

Ahmad Fauzi Ismail is Professor at School of Chemical and Energy Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, UTM. His research interests include the development of polymeric, inorganic and novel nanocomposite membranes for water desalination, wastewater treatment, gas separation processes, membrane for palm oil refining, photocatalytic membrane for removal of emerging contaminants, development of haemodialysis membrane and polymer electrolyte membrane for fuel cell applications. Currently Ahmad Fauzi is the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Research and Innovation, UTM. He is the founder of Advanced Membrane Technology Research Center (AMTEC) which is recognized as Higher Education Centre of Excellence (HICoE) at the national level. He is the author of over 700 papers in refereed journals and 50 book chapters. He has authored or co-authored 6 books and edited or co-edited 8 books. He has been granted 9 patents and filed 21 patents. His current h-index and total citations is 68 and 20,742 respectively based on Scopus database. He has supervised 52 PhD and 50 MSc students to completion and 10 post-doctoral fellows. He received more than 120 awards at both National and International level. Among the prestigious awards won are the Merdeka Award for the Outstanding Scholastic Achievement Category on 4th September 2014, three times Malaysia’s Rising Star Award by Clarivate Analytics (2016, 2017, 2018). He is also the recipient of Innovative Action Plan for Human Capital Development Tertiary Level award at 2013 by The Ministry of Education. He has been awarded Malaysia Young Scientist Award in 2000; ASEAN Young Scientist Award in 2001; the National Intellectual Property Award twice in (Patent Category), 2009 and (Product Category), 2013; Two times National Innovation Award for (Waste to Wealth Category), 2009 and (Product Category), 2011. He also won National Academic Award (Innovation and Product Commercialization Category) in August 2013 and Malaysian Toray Science and Technology Foundation Award, on 28 November 2013. He has been named as one of Most Cited Researchers in the list developed for Shanghai Ranking's Global Ranking of Academic in Chemical Engineering 2016. Recently, He received The World Academic of Sciences (TWAS) Prize in Engineering Sciences for 2019. He is a Fellow of The Academy of Sciences Malaysia, Chairman of the ASM Southern Region Chapter since 2016, Founding President of Malaysia Membrane Society (MyMembrane) since 2018, Founding Vice President Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Alumni Association Malaysia, 2019, Chartered Engineer in the UK (CEng) and a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (FIChemE) since 2012. Ahmad Fauzi served as the Chief Editor (Water Treatment and Desalination), Emergent Materials journal; Engineering Editor for The Arabian Journal for Science and Engineering (AJSE) journal; Advisory Board Qatar University Press 2018, Advisory Board Members for Desalination Journal, Journal of Chemical Technology and Biotechnology and Journal of Membrane Science and Research; Editorial Board Members for Journal of Membrane Water Treatment, Carbon Resources Conversion Journal, Jurnal Teknologi, Journal of Membrane and Separation Technology; Biofuel Research Journal, Journal of Rubber Research and Editor-in Chief for Journal of Applied Membrane Science & Technology.


Dr. Devaraj Veerasamy

Dr. Wirach Taweepreda graduated as a Chemist in Prince of Songkla University (PSU), Thailand. He completed his master degree in polymer science and technology at Mahidol University, Thailand and completed his PhD thesis in School of Chemistry at University of Bristol, U.K. His research interest involves development of elastomeric membrane application. Since 2005, he was appointed Lecturer at the Polymer Science Program, Department of Materials Science and Technology, Faculty of Science, PSU, initially teaching courses in Fundamental of Elastomer, Polymer Physics, and Polymeric Membrane. From 2012 onwards, he is working as Assistant Professor in the same department. He coordinating as principal investigator for many projects which is funded by Thailand Research Funding (TRF) and National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) for development and application of elastomeric membrane in gas separation and recovery of industrial wastes. Current research involves the membrane application for waste natural rubber (NR) serum recovery and Greener Eco-Environment process for raw NR production collaborated with Dr. Devaraj Veerasamy, Malaysia. He has been a member of the Thailand Polymer Society and he has authored over 50 original articles in peer review international journal and various patents, book chapters in the field of Elastomer and Membrane Science and Technology and he presented his research findings in various international conferences.
